Dress like a gent to repent

Gentlemen, it is time to kiss that baseball cap good bye and put on your yarmulkes. The High Holy Days are upon us and while dressing guys appropriately is pretty simple – they don’t have to worry about how short their dresses are – they all too easily can make fashion don’ts and end up looking like extras on the Jersey Shore.
So all you guys out there, repent! Take off your sunglasses indoors and button up those button-down shirts to dress right for the High Holy Days.
Your best bet, as Barney Stinson from How I Met Your Mother would say, is to “Suit it up!” A suit is always classy and it never goes out of style. In addition, it shows respect, and not just in a mafia kind of way. But if your last suit is from your high school graduation or, even worst, your Bar Mitzva, then opt for pair of nice tan, navy or black slacks and a buttoned-up shirt.
Here are some choices to be one classy man at shul:

Dress Shirts
Fitted Stretch Cotton Shirt, $59.90, Express

Class-fit Poplin Blue Stripe $34.99, Ralph Lauren

Blazers
Plain Blazer $159, Zara

Tailored chalk-stripe two-button blazer $250, Banana Republic

Dress Pants
Plain Trousers $79, Zara

Tailored Slim Pant $98.50, Banana Republic

Ties
If you are feeling fancy, add a tie to your ensemble, but remember to leave the funky patterns at home. Here are some ties that will not leave you in knots:
Steel Twin Stripes Tie $34.99, Calvin Klein

Public Opinion Woven Silk Tie $25, Nordstrom

Tips
Traditionally, men wear sneakers for the High Holy Days to follow the practice of not wearing leather shoes, which were a sign of luxury.
With the button-up shirt, please keep the “up” in mind when buttoning it. No one wants to see chest hair at shul. Yikes!
And one more thing: keep the hair gel to a minimum.
Stay stylish, boys!
