Amanda Borschel-Dan, founder and editor-in-chief of JewliciousU.com, was the longtime Magazine editor at The Jerusalem Post. She recently decided it was time to explore an idea for a Jewish student newspaper that had been nudging her for several years. After researching the many fractured Jewish campus outlets, it became clear to Borschel-Dan that JewliciousU.com would fill a communications and social vacuum, and serve as a necessary bridge between students on campuses in the Diaspora and in Israel.
Borschel-Dan is a ten-year veteran of The Jerusalem Post where she was the editor of the prestigious Friday Magazine. The Jerusalem Post is the most read Jewish newspaper in the world with an estimated Internet circulation of some 10 million unique users a month.
Borschel-Dan is well connected in the media world and has worked with hundreds of freelance writers and photographers, including students interning at the paper.
In her eight-year position as Magazine editor, Borschel-Dan headed a team of ten full-time staff writers, editors and graphic artists. She commissioned and shepherded dozens of prizewinning articles, which brought her writers prestigious cash prizes and fully funded overseas seminars. She successfully administered a budget of between NIS 3.3-NIS 7 million a year, making tough decisions in a troubled financial market, yet preserving top quality.
Borschel-Dan herself has also written hundreds of features and articles relating to Israeli society and culture. For many years she wrote a popular bi-weekly lifestyle column which appeared in the Friday Magazine.
Borschel-Dan has a BA in Jewish Studies and History from Indiana University (class of ’99), was a fellow at Jerusalem’s Pardes Institute of Jewish Studies, has participated in the Jewish Education Service of North America (JESNA) fellows program in Jerusalem and was an intern at the unique Museum of the Southern Jewish Experience in Utica, Mississippi. She made aliya in 2000 and lives in Jerusalem with her family.
